Sports Massage

Feel Better.   Move Better.   Perform Better.

Professional athletes and weekend warriors alike have found that incorporating sports massage into their routine helps improve  performance.  Whether you're training for a triathlon or a Grand Canyon backpack, sports massage provides physiological and psychological benefits.

At Bodies in Balance Massage, sports massage is more than just a handful of special techniques.  We believe that the first step to providing an effective sports massage is to understand our client and their activities.  Your therapist will ask you about your sport(s), exercise/training routine, injuries & "trouble spots", as well as what other repetitive tasks you perform.  They can then design a session that's tailored for you.

"I have found it a challenge to find a therapist with good knowledge and understanding of massage for athletes - Katrina is excellent, is caring, concerned, and tries hard to address and help alleviate pain I am experiencing."

Sports Massage can help...

  • Relax tight muscles which leads to increased flexibility, improved muscle tone, and reduced risk of injury.
  • Help address trouble spots like old injuries or chronic tightness.
  • Improve blood and lymph circulation which can lead to more effective removal of waste products and better cell nutrition.
  • Decrease post-exercise soreness.
  • Speed healing after an injury.
  • Avoid overtraining by facilitating general relaxation in your body.

Sports Massage Tips

  • Since massage is part of your body's recovery, it's best to get your sports massage on a rest day or after you've exercised for the day.
  • It's important to work with your therapist to schedule your massage when it will be most effective in reaching your goals.
  • Like any other massage, the benefits of sports massage are cumulative. You'll get the best results by including regular massage as part of your routine. Your therapist can recommend the appropriate frequency once they understand your sport, training, and specific "projects" you have (chronically tight hamstrings, old shoulder injury, etc).
