To most people (including, unfortunately, many massage therapists) deep tissue has become synonymous with deep pressure. In the anatomy world, "deep" simply means the underlying layers of tissue while superficial means tissue closest to the skin. So “deep tissue” just means the tissue nearer the bone. In reality we want all of our massages to affect your deep tissue. However, there are a variety of gentle and light-touch techniques to do just that. It doesn’t take a jackhammer’s worth of pressure to work with the deepest layers of soft tissue.
At the same time, we are happy to provide focused work with deep pressure if that is what you want and need. We just aren’t going to use an inaccurate term to describe it! During a Therapeutic Massage we focus on your problem areas using techniques and pressure (including deep!) that is the most comfortable for you.
