When I create a calm, relaxing environment in the office, I consider the effect on all of your senses. Try these tips to engage your sense while relaxing at home. Smell – Clear out cooking and other smells. Add lavender, ylang ylang, chamomile, citrus, or whichever scent you find relaxing. I prefer essential oils but use whatever you like. Keep it subtle. |
Sound – Shut out loud & distracting noises, turn off your phone and the TV. Add a fountain or some white noise, and top it off with relaxing music. Try “Spa” or “Chill” on XM. Or plug “massage” or “spa” into Pandora to get started.
Touch – The softness and warmth of a cozy throw, heated blanket, or down comforter can help you relax. The warm water of a bath or hot tub also works great.
Sight – Turn off bright lights. Add soft lighting from lamps or candles. Scented candles can do double duty. Or if any light is distracting, try an eye pillow.
Taste – Garlic bread with lunch? Brush your teeth to get rid of strong, distracting flavors.
